Freedom Vs Destiny :: essays research papers
Freedom VS Predestination à à à à à People like to believe that they have the freedom to choose what they want to do, however it is quite the opposite. Freedom has its limitations to what people are allowed to do, but predestination has no limits of any kind. Freedom is in fact used to cover up predestination, to keep people content in following absurd rules. Without predestination, how do we know what the weather will be like, or if the sun rises, or if someone will stop at a red light. You just do, common things that we think are just ââ¬Å"common sense,â⬠are really not, people stop at those red lights in order to sustain their life, not by their choice of, I donââ¬â¢t want a ticket. à à à à à Predestination makes the most sense of the two. There is no other way to explain things such as, people who grew up poor, yet somehow managed to create their own company and become multimillionaires. They were destine to create that company, it was not freedom. Freedom wouldnââ¬â¢t have given them the opportunity to show their ideas, it only allows them to create them. Predestination explains almost ninety percent of what happens in the world, from birth to death, and even pure luck. Freedom can not cause you to have ââ¬Å"good luckâ⬠in a day, it is predestination which brings you to this ââ¬Å"good luck.â⬠à à à à à Freedom is a fallacy that takes over the human race like a parasite. It is used to cover up what people do not want to believe. Murderers had the ââ¬Å"choiceâ⬠to kill that person, or was it just their time to die according to their destiny. In this case, freedom is used to make it easier on the people of the dead person, rather than having them face the truth that it was just their loved oneââ¬â¢s/friendââ¬â¢s/etc.. time to die. It is also said that freedom controls not just physical actions, but creativity in the mind. If thatââ¬â¢s so, then why isnââ¬â¢t everyone born with the ability to draw or paint or make something with the same skill? A simple answer, they were not born for that purpose, that skill has no part in their destiny.

Beloved, Water Imagery Essay
We visually see water as a clear, constantly flowing object integrated in many areas such as an ocean, a pool, or even a simple cup. But sometimes we do not see the meaning water can have and itââ¬â¢s relation to society. In the novel Beloved, water is related to and involved in many instances that lead to a positive change. Characters like Sethe have experienced a situation in which she had to once escape sweet home, a former slave home, to go on to live a free life. Instances of rebirth or birth occur with Denver and Beloved being brought into the world. At the time, being a slave was hard and even harder when one was pregnant; one would still receive constant abuse, and for Sethe, it was a difficult life. Beginning a new life with a family could have been the start for so, but they would have to escape their slave homes. Therefore, it is seen that the motif of water serves as a positive concept for the characters and their future. At first, it is seen that Sethe, a black, female, pregnant slave who resides in sweet home, is under the care of a cruel man, schoolteacher, who enforced slave-like behavior. The brutality Sethe suffers gets to the point where she has to run away from sweet home in secure of a peaceful life. Captured, beaten, and under the control of schoolteacher after her attempt to run away, she does so again, despite being caught previously. Upon her arrival at the Ohio River, she sees a white girl by the name of Amy Denver, who aids in the birth of Setheââ¬â¢s daughter as the canoe is being filled with water; her child is named Denver, after Amy Denver helped her. Later another character named Stamp Paid helps Sethe go across the Ohio River without any problems. The water in these scenes is significant because a new child is born, and without the water, it would be a harder process to deliver. With the help of Stamp Paid, Sethe goes over the Ohio River on the way to Baby Suggââ¬â¢s house. The water also signifies the first steps to Setheââ¬â¢s freedom by leaving sweet home and the cruel memories it has to her. Before heading to 124 with Denver and eventually meeting up with Paul D, Sethe makes a stop at Baby Suggââ¬â¢s home in Cincinnati, OH. Baby Suggs could be viewed as an inspiration to the black community as she is aware of what slaves are going through. ââ¬Å"She led Sethe to the keeping room and, by the light of a spirit lamp, bathed her in sections, starting with her face. Then, while waiting for another pan of heated water, she sat next to her and stitched cotton. Sethe dozed and woke to the washing of her hands and arms. â⬠(Morrison, 109) The implication of Setheââ¬â¢s face being bathed is that she is starting her life all over. The memories she has of being raped by schoolteacherââ¬â¢s nephews and constant abuse from schoolteacher are cleansed away by the water she is bathed with. The water in this context serves as a make-over for Setheââ¬â¢s life, allowing her to move on from the past and to the future. In addition to seeing Sethe find her freedom through her escape, Paul D too had to find a way to get to 124 to be with her and Denver. Stuck in the abusive prison camp in Alfred, GA, the prisoners are kept in their cells all day by rain: ââ¬Å"It rained. In the boxes the men heard the water rise in the trench and looked out for cottonmouths. They squatted in muddy water, slept above it, peed in itâ⬠¦ it happened so quick he had no time to ponderâ⬠¦ one by one, from Hi Man back on down the like, thy dove. Down through the mud under the bars, blind, groping. â⬠(Morrison, 109) The excessive rain that poured down to the ground created a muddy footing which gave the prisoners the opportunity to escape. Paul D took advantage of this situation to escape the prison camp to get to 124 to be with Denver and Sethe. Once again, it is seen that water is an essential positive concept for the characters in Beloved. Without the waterââ¬â¢s presence, the muddy ground would not have allowed or helped Paul D and the rest to escape. The impact the water has on this scene is helping to facilitate Paul D after he has been enslaved for a long time. He and Sethe both start new paths because of the concept of water. Within the text, the motif of water is shown to be has an essential object which helps the slaves in different ways. The flatbed filled with water aids in the delivery of Denver. The water that Baby Suggs bathes Sethe with cleanses her past and rejuvenates her life to a brand new future. The torrential downpour Paul D experiences in his prison camp allows the ground to become an easy surface to escape from opening the way to a new future. And finally, the long Ohio River is used by Sethe uses to escape her ââ¬Å"prisonâ⬠with schoolteacher in Kentucky. All of these examples of waterââ¬â¢s are positive leading out causes for these characters. Without water, the characters goes would have ended up much differently.

Sample of Book Review
Sample of Book Review Book: The Little Prince Author: Antoine de Saint-Exupà ©ry All grown-ups were once children ââ¬â although few of them remember it. ââ¬Å"The Little Princeâ⬠was written by Antoine de Saint-Exupà ©ry in 1943. This novel is a magical story that reveals the essence of life, love and loneliness. Due to the simplicity of the prose style, breezy and funny illustrations, vividness of imagination this simple yet insightful story is considered to be one of the greatest literary works of all times. The narrator of the story is an aviator, who landed in the Sahara Desert in order to repair his plane. He accidently meets the Little Prince, who has been travelling from planet to planet. The small blond boy reveals the thing he has learned throughout his journey. One of the most significant ideas he has acknowledged lies in the secret a fox had told him: But you must not forget it.à You become responsible, forever, for what you have tamed.à You are responsible for your rose. . . This book is a tale of a young prince who has left his tiny planet and wanted to find the answers for questions that disturbed him and at the same time it discloses the story of a man who has gained knowledge of life nature from a pure child whose voyages and virtuousness have inspired him and brought wisdom. The whole book is permeated with love, fulfillment of expectations and maintenance of those relationships. Saint-Exuperyââ¬â¢s satiric touch accurately emphasizes that grown-ups sometimes lack imagination. I believe that ââ¬Å"The Little Princeâ⬠can be perceived differently: for

Causes and Symptoms of Eyestrain
Eyestrain is fundamentally caused by straining one or more of the eye muscles. Most commonly the strain is in the ciliary body, the eye muscle responsible for accommodation, typically by keeping it in one position for a long time, visually concentrating on one thing or one distance for too long. The eyes tend to strain faster from focusing on near distances as opposed to far distances. Switching between distances rapidly can hasten the strain as well. Symptoms of Eyestrain The Mayo Clinic lists the following possible symptoms of eyestrain:à Sore, tired, burning, or itching eyesWatery or dry eyesBlurred or double visionHeadacheSore neck, shoulders, or backIncreased sensitivity to lightDifficulty concentratingFeeling that you cannot keep your eyes open Common Causes Some common activities that can cause eyestrain include using a computer or other electronic device, reading, watching television, and driving. In addition to activities that cause you to focus the eyes for long periods, some environmental factors can add to the stress placed on your eyes, such as low light levels,à fluorescent lighting, a bad viewing angle, a poor ergonomic computer setup, low screen contrast levels,à glare, brightness, and dry moving air from a fan or air conditioner. Some personal factors contribute to eyestrain as well, such as poor and uncorrected vision, stress, fatigue/tiredness, and poor posture. What You Can Do Of course, as a problem caused by overuse, youll want to incorporate breaks into your work or activity thats causing the eyestrain or limit yourà screen time if possible. Improve the lighting in the room, such as using soft light or task light thats not glaring into your eyes or onto a TV or computer screen. Using eye drops can help relieve dryness, as well as using a humidifier and positioning yourself or the air vent to limit air blowing directly on you. At Your Computer Station If work at a computer is a problem, position the monitor so that the top of the screen is at or below your eye level, at an arms length away from you. Staring can be a problem, drying out your eyes, and people dont even realize it. Make sure youre blinking enough. Every 20 minutes or so, look away from the screen and focus on something in the distance. You can cut sunlight glare on the screen with a device that goes over the screen, or cut glare from lighting in the room by closing blinds or shades and using a desk lamp to the side rather than fluorescent lights above and behind you. You also can blow up text on the screen for easier reading, and adjust the monitors settings to cut brightness. Keep the screen clean, as dust cuts contrast, and dont put a monitor right in front of a white wall. Glasses If you need glasses and have to work on a screen daily, your eye doctor may recommend eye exercises and corrective lenses (contacts or glasses) that have a special coating to reduce glare from screens. If you drive a lot, sunglasses with UV protection can help reduce strain as well.

2Nd Amendment Essay Example For Students
2Nd Amendment Essay The Second Amendment to the Constitution of the United States of America asserts, ?Awell-regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the peopleto keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.? At the time when this amendment waspassed, the country was still primarily an agrarian and hunting society, guns were ahousehold item, and necessary for daily life. The armed farmer was the principal soldierin the revolution to establish an independent country. The framers of the Constitutionunderstood that these gun-wielding countrymen were essential to the revolution, andwanted to insure the people would never be defenseless. In recent decades, with thewaning practical application of guns in an industrialized nation, the Second Amendmenthas come under much fire. Living in a technologically advanced country, United Statescitizens no longer have a need for guns in their everyday lives and, therefore, manyAmericans have grown up in gun-less homes. The recent rash of violence across thecountry has shown that the ideals of modern American society have gone awry. Many arequick to blame guns as the reason for this violence. Actually, the problem is not thepossession of guns; Americans have had them for over 200 years. Instead, the demise ofthe morals of society and the lack of restraint of the American public have caused therecent violent trend. Guns are merely a tool. In the hands of immoral and undisciplinedpeople, they are put to evil purposes. The problem lies in the fact that the amendment was created to deal with themuzzle-loaders of the time, and now guns have evolved into killing machines, not justhunting rifles. These new guns however, are no more capable of killing without a mancontrolling them; guns have been prevalent for literally hundreds of years without beingused as weapons for humans against humans, except in times of war. Guns have been inAmerican homes since 1776, and they were not associated with violence until recently. We will write a custom essay on 2Nd Amendment specifically for you for only $16.38 $13.9/page Order now The current trend of school and workplace violence is due to the desensitization of theAmerican people through television, movies and even music. Movie and televisionproducers are businessmen, and they produce what sells, that usually being violence. With the American public watching such films, and loving them, the influence oneveryday life cannot be ignored. Statistical facts from other countries show the USA to be much more violent thanmost other industrialized countries. Last year, Paris suffered less than 25% of the violencethat occurred in Washington DC, and Paris is four times as large. The classic society thatis present in Europe does not have the same fetish with violence as is present in America. ?Progressive? generations in the American society are in essence regressing; the termsGeneration X and the Me Generation have been coined and convey the selfishness that isevident in modern society. The Columbine High School violence spree is simply one ofthe recent acts of violence, but it illustrates how the countrys ?troubled? youth arereacting to their surroundings. People are taking a more violent approach to try to solveproblems than ever before, and that is certainly not solving anything. The recent increase in job related violence can be blamed on the increased stressand desensitization of the average worker. This new approach to workplace problems isvery evident, recently in Hawaii and is so common that the term ?going postal? has beencreated to describe workplace shootings. In the early years of our country, and in mostplaces around the world at a boss or a layoff might have been expressed through yellingor at worst, throwing a chair. The desensitization of the American worker has caused himto take a different approach in very recent times, the approach of violence expressed withthe abuse of guns. .u25631b4dd379d05ba42132a4489fac5f , .u25631b4dd379d05ba42132a4489fac5f .postImageUrl , .u25631b4dd379d05ba42132a4489fac5f .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u25631b4dd379d05ba42132a4489fac5f , .u25631b4dd379d05ba42132a4489fac5f:hover , .u25631b4dd379d05ba42132a4489fac5f:visited , .u25631b4dd379d05ba42132a4489fac5f:active { border:0!important; } .u25631b4dd379d05ba42132a4489fac5f .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u25631b4dd379d05ba42132a4489fac5f { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u25631b4dd379d05ba42132a4489fac5f:active , .u25631b4dd379d05ba42132a4489fac5f:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u25631b4dd379d05ba42132a4489fac5f .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u25631b4dd379d05ba42132a4489fac5f .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u25631b4dd379d05ba42132a4489fac5f .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u25631b4dd379d05ba42132a4489fac5f .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u25631b4dd379d05ba42132a4489fac5f:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u25631b4dd379d05ba42132a4489fac5f .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u25631b4dd379d05ba42132a4489fac5f .u25631b4dd379d05ba42132a4489fac5f-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u25631b4dd379d05ba42132a4489fac5f:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Oedipus Rex6 EssayThe issue of gun control is historically split between the two major politicalparties in the US The Democrats have always pushed for stricter gun laws, and theRepublicans have always been for lenient laws. Heavy campaign contributions are madeto both parties in hope to push certain groups views with The National Rifle Associationleading the way with large contributions to the Republican Party. Regardless of party, most politicians agree that something must be altered in the present equilibrium, becauseviolence is almost becoming routine. The Second Amendment was intended for the purpose of reminding thesepoliticians that they are there to serve the people, and no other reason. Although electionsare usually enough incentive for politicians to please the people, they need to know thatthe people can revolt, and the Constitution is not the last ruling document that thiscountry will ever see. The brilliance in the Constitution is that the Framers allowed forchanges in society and changes in government. They knew that they could not map thefate of the country in a few months. Today, the Second Amendment is outdated, and not currently effective. It is,however, part of the Constitution and that will not change in any time near. Since theFramers of the Constitution could never envision what would become of guns or theviolence that would occur in the US, they cannot be blamed. The amendment was nevera problem for the first 200 years of our existence, and that points to a problem in modernsociety, not the Constitution. Before something that has been around for centuries ischanged, maybe what has changed in recent decades should be examined. Modern American society is based on instant gratification and what people absorbfrom their surroundings. Unfortunately, these surroundings are not always the bestinfluences. Movies, television and music are filled with violence, drugs and sex. Ifsociety surrounds itself with such activities, the influences will be widespread. In conclusion, the focus of violence and violent behavior is often directed at gunsand the availability of handguns. Instead, the focus should be turned on society and thechanging morals and actions that have caused something that has always been present inour society, guns, to become a problem in recent times. Although more efficient, gunstoday serve the same purpose as always, and in no other time period or any other moderncountry has the problem with gun violence that the United States has. Maybe societyshould change instead of changing a document that has been steadfast for over 200 years.
